New Daily Mail Article

The Daily Mail has just published a new story about the Crolla family breast cancer gene. Read about it here. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/healthmain.html?in_article_id=468871&in_page_id=1774#StartComments

It seems to me that the NHS are astonishingly slow to catch on to all the research we are all doing into the family. My husband took them the entire family tree as we know it (on cd) when he went for his first visit to Nottingham City Hospital genetics department. This was six months or so ago. They only called him back in for a blood test again this week. They said they could not trace the records of his first cousin who died from breast cancer 23 years ago. What's going on?

Hi Kath,it's just a coincidence that Nancy(aka Anunziata Coletta nee D'Agustino)is on Alex Best's tree in the news article, she was my g-grandmother. Eugenia Panetta(nee Coletta) was one of the daughters from Anunziata's 1st marriage with Augustine Coletta&Eugenia was my dad Anthony Crolla's mother.Angelo is actually called Michael Angelo&possibly not related to my Crolla line directly but could have been a cousin, nobody in our family called him Angelo either always M.A..what interests me more about the tree on the article is that Victor&Eugenio have a brother Antonio...I have not seen any records that Antonio Crolla&Felis Pia had a son Antonio. My great grandfather Antonio Crolla(father Beniamino Crolla) born 1856 married Margaret Hamilton about 1891&they lived at 41 Cotton St Ancoats. There they had my grandad Bernard Crolla(1887)who had 5 children with Eugenia Panetta(nee Coletta) one of them being my dad Anthony Crolla(1927).I know they are maybe only related by marriage but please could you send me a copy of the Antonio&Felis 'Holy Grail'family tree :)if not then could you let me know if you see a Beniamino or Benjamino Crolla born Italy abt 1830 on it.In return I can send you Sylvester Crolla&Aurelia's wedding photo which has some Crolla family members on it....Anything you send would be much appreciated that would help me connect the two Crolla families thankyou Kath ..Santina Crolla xXx

Hi Santina
Good to hear from you.
Check out the new Crolla website I've posted news of on here... you have info to add to the Crolla tree it's hoped will result.
Antonio and Felis did not have a son Antonio - the "tree" on the newspaper article is misleading - they had 6 children: Vittorio, Eugenio,Gerardo, Maria,Giovanna and Gaetano.
I have a CARLO BENIAMINO CROLLA (b.10/12/1825-PICINISCO (IT))
The exact relationship to Antonio I can't quite work out from the complicated document, but email me with your address.

This board confuses me.I don't remember sending another message after the last one so perhaps I clicked 'send' twice&the admin deleted one.Ok also I can't find a way to send my email privately.

Yes you are right about the article being misleading because all the names are not as they should be Sylvesters daughter Ann was never known as that...she was Anunziata(aka Nancy)&named after my great grandmother.Ann died of menangistis at 19yrs old&Phyllis is called Philomena. The reason I know all this is because my Panetta cousins have told me.They were much older than me&remember them well.We all shared the same g-grandmother(Nancy)&they were all classed as cousins. They used to visit each other all the time right up to the 60's. I don't think any of the Crolla's were in the UK by the 1850's as stated by the news article...the earliest records I am getting are about 1870-71.

I have built up a collection of various Crolla records&am now in the process of putting them all together.I also have army cards of various Crolla's but don't know how to use them to gain more info.

Hope to hear from you soon ...Sntina Crolla xXx

I've finally found Birth origin of our Crolla's and have their full family tree.

I've just updated the Crolla tree .. it goes back to late 1600's,Your husband Michael is around the middle, I am at the bottom :) http://www.alrightposters.com/crolla/crollafamilytree.html

I have just aquired our Crolla tree from Michel Vacca in Picinisco Italy last wknd. So we were on that Picinisco Crolla tree you sent me after all and it was Carlo Beniamino Crolla b-1825. After 6yrs of searching I now know my gt-gt grandparent's were Carlo Beniamino Crolla & Giacinta Pecchia.Three of their children died in 1 week in 1876 Picinisco Italy and I think this was also when Carlo Beniamino died. My guess is I think there might have been some sort of epidemic in Italy 1876 that killed them. Giacinta then took her remaining children to the uk late 1876. My gt grandfather Antonio Crolla remained in Holborn London where he married Donata Marino in 1881 whilst the others came to Ancoats Manchester.By 1887 (Josephs birth) Antonio & Donata were also in Manchester. When researching family tree's the wifes maiden name is very important and once I had Giacinta's maiden name I was able to find her Pecchia (sometimes spelled Recchia) branch of the family & also her grandparents all from Campodimele, Latina, Italy. My tree is now as follows

1. CARLO BENIAMINO CROLLA (n.10/12/1825-PICINISCO (IT) Fontitune)
CJ: GIACINTA PECCHIA

2. MICHELE ANGELO CROLLA (n.09/05/1854-PICINISCO (IT))

Alex Best is my mother's sister. The family tree in the article is misleading. it says Maria's (my grandmother) sister Beatrice died of other causes. Yet my auntie Bee is there in the photo!
